Wellbeing
Student Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at VISS Kalba.
At VISS Kalba, we understand that unless students feel safe, comfortable, and happy, meaningful learning cannot take place. For this reason, student wellbeing is central to everything we do. Our wellbeing model is grounded in the VISS values of Community, Diversity, and Integrity, underpinned by the principles of Positive Education (PERMA), and supported by the 5 Ways to Wellbeing.
Wellbeing at Kalba is approached in a variety of ways across the school. Each term, we focus on specific themes such as belonging and connection, emotional awareness, resilience and growth mindset, kindness and respect, and gratitude and giving. These topics are woven into classroom routines, assemblies, and whole-school activities, ensuring that wellbeing is an active and visible part of daily life.
We also believe that student success can only be achieved through a three-way partnership of students, teachers, and parents. Open and regular communication with families is a priority, not only about academic progress but also regarding wellbeing. Parents are kept informed and involved, and their role in supporting children’s growth is valued as an essential part of the school community.
In line with national and international wellbeing frameworks, our vision is for every student to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. We aim to ensure that all children feel they belong, are respected, and are given the tools and opportunities to thrive both in school and in life.
What we do at VISS Kalba to support student wellbeing includes:
- Greeting students daily as they arrive and leave, ensuring every child feels seen and welcomed.
- Having school counsellors on site to provide guidance, support, and intervention when needed.
- Conducting regular student surveys to give children a voice and ensure their wellbeing needs are understood and addressed.
- Delivering weekly wellbeing sessions across year levels, providing dedicated time to explore themes such as resilience, kindness, and emotional regulation.
