At VISS we have a relentless focus on providing a world class education that fosters community engagement, a positive school climate and excellence in teaching and learning

The Victorian Australian Curriculum provides a strong and carefully sequenced foundation in English, Mathematics and Inquiry.

Lessons combine explicit teaching, where knowledge and skills are clearly modelled and practised, with inquiry-based learning, where students are encouraged to ask questions, explore, and investigate ideas both independently and collaboratively. A strong emphasis is placed on a hands-on approach, with children learning by experimenting, building, creating, and applying their knowledge in real-world contexts. For example, science is brought to life through practical investigations, mathematics is deepened through manipulatives and problem-solving tasks, and humanities are explored through projects and local connections.

Our teaching is guided by John Hattie’s High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS), which emphasise clear learning intentions, success criteria, worked examples, and timely feedback. This ensures that every lesson is purposeful, structured, and evidence-based, resulting in visible improvements in student learning and achievement.

Specialist teaching in PE and PMP (Perceptual Motor Programmes for Prep students), Art, and Music further enriches the curriculum, supporting creativity, teamwork, and physical wellbeing. These areas provide opportunities for students to develop confidence, resilience, and the ability to express themselves in a variety of ways.

Language support programmes such as MultiLit ensure steady progress in English literacy, while students also make strong gains in Arabic and Islamic Studies, in line with the Ministry of Education curriculum.

This combination allows students to grow as bilingual learners, building both English and Arabic fluency while deepening their cultural awareness and respect for local traditions. The programme as a whole provides strong academic foundations while nurturing curiosity, independence, and a love of lifelong learning.
